Cumbria Multicultural Women’s Network brings together women of diverse cultures now living in Cumbria, for the purpose of acknowledging and celebrating individual heritage and traditions, sharing unique and collective experience, and nurturing skills and confidence; thus enhancing abilities to integrate with local community and pursue new opportunities.

Our Future

Our future looks bright; we will continue to strengthen links between existing groups and inspire new groups and more women to come to the Network and make it what they want it to be.

The membership is not exclusive: you don’t have to be from an ethnic minority group to become involved. Whether to offer assistance to members and the Network overall, to seek opportunities for contact and friendship, to lead by good example and make others believe in themselves, to donate, to volunteer or become a Friend of CMWN - we look forward to hearing from you.

Our future steps

Building upon and learning about each other’s cultures

Supporting members in the process of cultivating their lives and their heritage;

Focusing on strengths, lived experience and using visual arts as a means of expression

Informing and supporting women in taking training and volunteering opportunities as well as dealing with individual difficulties

Creating educational films and a film archive of the history of the Network and the lives of its members and those around them

Developing links with local establishments and the local community for educational exchange of knowledge and ideas

Campaigning for victims of domestic violence with No Recourse to Public Funds

Developing local, national and international partnerships

"I was moved to read poems and stories from ideas and objects I’d given when I ran my workshops…For me the presentation was humbling, moving, uplifting – and full of laughter (New Voices, Word Market, 2011)"
