Cumbria Multicultural Women’s Network brings together women of diverse cultures now living in Cumbria, for the purpose of acknowledging and celebrating individual heritage and traditions, sharing unique and collective experience, and nurturing skills and confidence; thus enhancing abilities to integrate with local community and pursue new opportunities.

FAQs - answers to the questions people ask about the Network

How do I become a member?

You're welcome to attend any of our get-togethers or meetings if a friend or someone you know is already a member and invites you to come along. You don't have to be a member to join the group, please come as a guest and see whether you like being a part. If you wish to join, and we hope that you do, please speak to the contact person for your nearest group to become a member.

Please check our contacts page for your nearest group and our events calendar for future dates.

If you prefer to ring or email then just drop us a line or give us a call, you'll find all the phone numbers and email addresses in the contacts page.

Hope to hear from you soon.

What if I can’t attend meetings?

That's fine. None of us attend all meetings either because they're so widespread across the area but more often because of other commitments and some activities will be more interesting to us than others.

You will find that once you get to know other members better, you will make new friends and often groups of friends meet one another outside of our Network activities which is a rewarding extension of what we do within the Network.

Is there a fee?

There is no fee for membership.

I have an idea! How can I tell you about it?

Members: Please do talk to one of us at any of our get togethers or meetings or if you prefer to write, email us or give us a call.  We thrive on new ideas!  As long as it fits within the Network aims and plans, we'll support you if that's what you need or if you can run with it, even better.

We also welcome new and prosperous opportunities for partnership working from other organisations.

You'll find our details on the contacts page.

Can I bring my children?

Children are always welcome at any of our events. They are part of your life therefore they are part of the Network.

If any meetings are of a nature that are best kept child free for their benefit and yours or for certain training events, we will tell you in advance. When needed and whenever possible, we will arrange childcare through registered childcare providers.

I am British

We are a multicultural group and you are of course welcome to join us. Read our membership page and see the section on Friends of CMWN.  Call us if you want to talk about becoming a member.  Our phone numbers are on the contacts page.

I have a problem, can you help me?

Whilst CMWN is not a service provider as an organisation, many of our members are trained in problem solving, have a good understanding of the mainstream services and the support in hand and several members actually provide advice and advocacy in their own jobs. Many others are 'trained' in life experience and this has many a times been a great help to fellow members.

Whatever your problem is, please talk to one of us and we will try to resolve it or we will point you in the direction of more specialised help. Sometimes it helps to buddy up with a fellow member who may walk with you to the bank or the college or similar. At other times, we appreciate that this will not be enough and we will then guide you to the right support.

You can email or telephone us or send a message using the electronic form on the Contacts page and we will get back to you as soon as possible.

How will my contact details be used?

All contact details are kept private and secure.  Your address, email address and phone number will only be passed within the Network with your permission. No details are passed on or exchanged with anyone else without your agreement.

All private information is treated with respect and is kept secure and not divulged without your permission. Photos taken at events and social occasions are often used in our publicity materials, in local newspaper stories, on our website and on other websites we are linked to.  We will not use any photos of you without your consent.  You will be asked to sign a consent form before events when general photos are being taken, which you may decline if you wish.

I am not here permanantly

We are delighted to meet and share time with visitors and others who will not be here permanantly. You can join in all our activities, take away happy memories and leave some with us. You may make friends who will remain in touch with you after you leave.  You can keep in touch with us through the website Forum page and on our Facebook page. And you can remain a Friend of CMWN wherever you go.
